Here you can see Ionian, Lydian, Hellenistic and Byzantine civilizations. At Ephesus; you will visit, the famous Celcius Library, the amphi theatre and marble streets. Probably one of the most splendid sights is the Temple of Goddess Artemis, considered as one of the 7 wonders of the World. Then we will drive up small hill to House of the Virgin Mary where it is believed she has lived her last days. The Catholic Church has never pronounced in favor or against the authenticity of the house, but nevertheless maintains a steady flow of pilgrimage since its discovery..
FRIDAY 7TH JUNE
Photo Visit by the Ancient Windmils - Myndos Gate Bodrum - Ancient Theatre - Mauseloum at Halicarnassus - St. Peters Castle - Underwater Museum - Palmarina Yalıkavak
We will depart from hotel at 8.3 a.m. and we wil be back at 17.00. We will start with a photo visit by the Ancient Windmills; facing northwest, to catch the coastal winds, these windmills made of stone and lined with wooden planks, and were used from the 18th century until the 70s as a means to grind flour for the local people. Although a common sight the windmills are now derelict but still rest among the olive trees on the surrounding hills. Seven of these windmills (only two are in rather good condition) are on a hill which separates Bodrum and Gumbet, which is a fantastic location for great panorama views, on one side of the view you have a stunning view of Bodrum, and on the other side a glorious view of Gumbet. Dawns are also really beautiful there, you'll enjoy to the fullest the synergy of sun, sea and wind. The next stop will be Myndos Gate; which is one of the two gates built, as part of a 4.3-mile (7 km) fortified wall surrounding the city, by the ruler of Caria, Mausolus, in the 5th century BC. In the vicinity of the Myndos Gate there are towers, a courtyard, and some graves. One of the graves belongs to the Caria queen, Ada and some others belong to the Romans. Some graves have mosaic pavement depicting animals. Next stop The Bodrum Amphitheatre is another structure accredited to the reign of King Mausolus, although it wasn't fully completed until the Roman era. The theatre is another witness to the great past of Bodrum, and it is one of the best preserved structures of ancient Halikarnassus. Originally, it was built around 4th C BC during the reign of King Mausolos, in 2nd C AD, during the Roman period, it was enlarged and enriched. Fourth stop of the day will be, Mauseloum at Halicarnassus, which is considered as one of the 7 wonders of the World. Our today only the ruins of this unique site can be visited; The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus or Tomb of Mausolus was a tomb built between 353 and 350 BC at Halicarnassus for Mausolus, a satrap in the Persian Empire, and his sister-wife Artemisia II of Caria. The structure was designed by the Greek architects Satyros and Pythius of Priene. Next stop will be, Bodrum Castle; St. Peters Castle; which was constructed by the Knights of Rhodes in the 15th century during the crusades of the middle ages, and it was given the name The Castle of St. Petrus, or Petronium. Occupying over 30 square feet at its base, construction of this castle took years to complete. The final parts of the castle were erected in the time of Pierre d'Abusson between 1476 and 1593, with the English tower being added at around 1480 At the Castle we will continue our day with a visit to Museum of Underwater Archaeology; which is one of the most important museums of its kind all around the World, with a collection of amphoras, ancient glass, bronze, clay, and iron items. Our day will continue with a visit to Palmarina Yalıkavak; PALMARINA Bodrum, with the only high capacity of Mega & Giga Yacht mooring of Turkey, together with the entertainment world it offers, is providing the opportunity for 69 Mega Yachts that are 40 meters and above to dock and to moor throughout the years well as for sail boats and Motor yachts of various lengths. Here you will have the chance to make shopping as well.
